Migrating from another Digital Asset Management System to Islandora, these instructions will help you correctly formulate the metadata sheets. For current Islandora customers, PALS will batch load objects and associated metadata for an additional fee. Please open a Support Center ticket to receive a quote.
General Guidelines
The metadata sheet requires Drupal fields as column headers. PALS Support will work with you to formulate the header columns.
Required fields:
File: The object file name must match the file name on the metadata sheet EXACTLY.
Title: Every record requires a Title.
Model: Each entry on the metadata spreadsheet requires a model.
Collection: Indicate the destination collection in field_collection_name.
Special considerations:
Formulate dates in format XXXX-MM-DD.
Multiple values in the same field, separate each value with a |. For example: Brown, Greg|Miller, Sally|Smith, Jane
Enter additional metadata values.
If the ingest form includes required fields, and if the metadata sheet does NOT include those required field, ask PALS support to temporarily remove the required flag during ingest.
Save the spreadsheet as .csv.
Single Object Records
Single objects are Digital Document (PDF), Image, Video, Audio, and Binary (Word, Text, Excel, etc.) documents.
Select one of the following for field_model:
Audio
Binary
Digital Document
Image
Example Spreadsheet:
Multi-page objects
Multi-page objects such as books. Islandora displays the cover as the thumbnail. The title level is considered the parent. At the parent level, the metadata for the entire volume lies. The associated pages are considered the child(ren).
Note that only the file type .TIFF displays the turning page functionality. Please include the parent and associated children (pages) on the same spreadsheet. Additionally, on the spreadsheet, the parent level needs to
be listed first, followed by the pages/children. Provide the following mandatory fields:
Parent level
File = must match the file name of the object EXACTLY.
Title = Yearbook 1982 (for example).
field_model = Paged Content (acceptable file types tiff, jp2)
field_collection_name = the name of the collection to add
the objects.
Add any additional metadata fields.
Children/Page level: Arrange the pages under the parent on the spreadsheet.
File = must match the file name (page) of the object EXACTLY
Title = Yearbook 1982, page 1 (for example).
field_model = Page (acceptable file types .tiff, jp2)
parent_id = the file ID from the Paged Content (parent
level)
field_weight = only used for pages/children, determines the
order of pages, page 1 field_weight = 1, page 2 = field_weight = 2, etc.
Newspapers require three levels. The top-level Newspaper represents the publication's title. The Publication Issue level describes the issue, and the child/page level is associated with the Publication Issue. In order to achieve the year/month display you must provide an issue date. Acceptable files types is .tiff, jp2.
