"Program review." Those words can cause anxiety in the hearts of librarians, especially when there is no clear process or format at the institution that accounts for libraries. Come to this panel presentation to find out how Ridgewater College took on the challenge of planning and conducting a program review that met the needs of the institution, while also keeping library best practices and unique considerations in mind. The Council has come together to plan and create course content that is essential for all library professionals in MN. These courses will be available to anyone interested in the workings of libraries to register and work through at no cost, and participants will be able to share transcripts and certificates of their accomplishments with employers and on social platforms. We will review these current efforts and share plans for the future as we strengthen our amazing MN library community to be more inclusive and supportive of all library workers and their professional growth.

UAP Studies: The (re)Emergence of Academic Interest in a Once-Taboo Subject -Pete McDonnell, Systems & Circulation Librarian, A. C. Clark Library, Bemidji State University
In 2017, a groundbreaking front page New York Times article on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP, aka UFOs) catapulted the UFO topic back into the mainstream and popular imagination, challenging longstanding taboos and skepticism. This shift, reinforced by subsequent governmental admissions, high-profile whistleblower hearings and recent legislative measures in Congress, has opened the door for academic engagement with the UAP phenomenon.
As the cultural stigma lessens, UAP Studies are being reconsidered in light of multi- and interdisciplinary perspectives, and library archival collections that house UAP materials are also opening their doors, offering unprecedented access to scholars and the public alike.
My talk will illuminate how the study of UAP has come out from the cultural “fringe”, and will pose such questions as:
- Should UAPs/UFOs be studied in academia? How are they currently being studied? - Should the knowledge surrounding UAP be archived in libraries, and if so, how? - Is the study of UAPs considered fringe/pseudoscientific? If so, why?
Come learn about the unique challenges of archiving, studying, and legitimizing such “spurned” knowledge in the academic space. Drawing from my professional and personal experience, I will briefly discuss the process of creating an online finding aid for UAP-related archives and materials. We'll also briefly examine how emerging fields like UAP Studies may potentially impact knowledge creation in academia and expose institutional bias.

"Most viewers think city fairly treated on 'Mary Tyler Moore'": Public opinion polls and other digitization projects at the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library - Laura Bell, Minnesota Legislative Reference Library, Librarian; Molly Niehls, Minnesota Legislative Reference Library, Librarian; Elizabeth Lincoln, Minnesota Legislative Reference Library, Library Director
Room 514
The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library’s (LRL) recent digitization projects have served many purposes. They have increased access to unique collections, added functionality to essential research tools, preserved and documented the work of the Legislature, and of course have freed up shelf space. One of our most unique projects this year was digitizing the LRL’s public opinion poll collection. This collection consisted of a series of news clippings from the late 1960s to present, filed in 24 three-inch binders. Each binder had its own distinct topical index. After digitizing the clippings themselves, we created a centralized database and consolidated the unwieldy topical indexes. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the project from start to finish, and will include some fun finds along the way. Presenters will also highlight a few other recent LRL projects, including a new legislative photo archive and House and Senate Journal archive project.
2:00 pm - 2:45 pm: Concurrent Sessions (Virtual)

User Authentication in a Changing Landscape : Part Two - Tom Tran, Systems Librarian, Minnesota State University, Mankato; Lisa Baures, Reference/Instruction/College of Business Liaison Librarian, Minnesota State University, Mankato
With implementation of Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), the deployment of the SAML protocol has improved security, facilitated the enforcement of security policies, improved user experience, and reduced password fatigue. By using a single set of credentials to authenticate, students, faculty and staff now access resources and services with a single sign-on. This has resulted in some issues associated with IP validation and EZproxy being resolved, but not all. It is therefore important to identify what has changed, what has not changed, and what are the new challenges to providing access. As in our presentation last year, for illustrative purposes business databases will serve as a point of reference.
