Updating a Patron's Account
External Account
These are accounts where the patron info is managed in an external source and imported into Alma. These patrons authenticate through a system that is not Alma. On the User Details page, some of the patron's information fields will be grayed out, so you have to open the patron for updating using the steps below.
From the Checkout or Patron Services page
Fulfillment > Checkout/Checkin > Manage Patron Services
- Navigate to the patron's account
- Click on the Edit User Info Button
- If you do not find the Edit User Info button on the patron services screen, your account is missing a user management role.
- Update applicable information
- Click on Update User
From a user search
- Using the user search box, locate the patron's account
- Click on the hyperlink or use the Ellipsis to select Edit
- Click on the Open for Update Button
- Select No on the pop-up,
- Make appropriate updates
- Save
Internal Account
These are accounts where all of the information lives in Alma. All internal accounts authenticate through an identifier and saved password in Alma. For staff with the applicable roles, all fields are editable when viewing from the user details page.
From the Checkout or Patron Services page
Fulfillment > Checkout/Checkin > Manage Patron Services

Navigate to the patron's account
- Click on the Edit User Info Button
- If you do not find the Edit User Info button, or it's is missing on the patron services screen, your account is lacking a user management role.
- Update applicable information
- Click on Update User
From a user search
- Using the user search box, locate the patron's account
- Click on the hyperlink or use the Ellipsis to select Edit
- Make appropriate updates
- Save
