Posting to Opendora

Opendora is a digital repository for Minnesota State's OER efforts that let's Minnesota State faculty, staff, and librarians to leverage licensed open educational resources (OER) with the ability to access, load, and share material. Opendora allows the storage of or linking to a variety of OER course material including textbooks, lecture notes, syllabi, reading lists, test banks, and videos. Access for materials shared can be limited to other Minnesota State Faculty and Staff by loading as a Protected Resource or an Academic Continuity Resource.

You must be logged into D2L at a site where you have an instructor role to post materials to Opendora.  

Posting to Opendora Step by Step:

  • Login to your institution's D2L instance using your starID and password.
  • Select your course using the top minibar
  • Use the Resources* Menu option to select Opendora. 
    • The location of the Opendora menu item is managed by your local D2L admin so if it's not loacted here, please check with them. 
  • Decide if you want to post your material as protected or unprotected.
    • Unprotected materials are available to everyone and can be viewed on Opendora without logging in. 
    • Protected materials and Academic Continuity Resources are only accessible to other Minnesota State faculty and staff who are logged into Opendora, these materials only display when folks are logged into Opendora.
  • Select the appropriate link depending on what sort of access you'd like your material to have
  • Select the file format
  • Fill out the applicable fields; mandatory fields are highlighted with a red *
    • At a minimum the following are needed:
      • Title field is required.
        • Version Type field is required.
        • Academic Level field is required.
        • Resource Type field is required.
        • Resource Format field is required.
        • Discipline field is required.
        • Topic field is required.
        • License Type field is required.
        • Rights Holder field is required.
        • License Agreement field is required.
    • While not required, I highly recommend you fill out the institution and any accessibility information. 
    • Further, consider filling out the fields in the Search Terms section, where you can add the transfer curriculum goals, the course names, and keywords. 
    • Use the Click here option to view a pop-up list of options for the discipline/topic and license type sections.
    • Highlight of Click here link, indicated by red box, shown in the discipline and topic section of the Opendora form.
  • Click on the license agreement radio button
  • Then select the next button.
  • Click Add files
  • Locate your files
  • Click Start Upload
  • Then click the Upload button
  • You will then see a green flag saying derivatives successfully created. 

Notes
Protected Materials are only visible when you are logged into Opendora.
